Thompson Opticians - Cycling for Sight 2013

For 10 days between 15th & 25th August 2013 Thompson Opticians staff, family & friends gave up their time to support Optoms Cycling for Sight to help raise money for Optometry Giving Sight.

Optometry Giving Sight aims to eliminate avoidable blindness amongst the 670 million people worldwide who are blind or vision impaired simply because they do not have access to an eye exam and a pair of glasses. You can help fund sustainable projects which give sight and hope to those in need.

Optoms Cycling for Sight was started in 2011. In 2011 the cyclists travelled from Glasgow Caledonian University to Cardiff University, stopping at each mainland UK optometry department on the way. The cycle raised 2875. In 2012 the route extended to almost 1000 miles by starting at the new optometry department in Plymouth university and finishing at Glasgow Caledonian University. Cyclists Fares Hatoum and Maadhav Kothari again visited each optometry department and were joined by 18 other cyclists for different legs. They raised 3300.

This year Optoms Cycling for Sight will be cycling across the world. Their aim is to collectively reach 25000 miles (the circumference of the earth) and 25000 in donations over 10 days from the 15th – 25th August.

You can help by donating via our secure Just Giving page here, any donation no matter how big or how small will help us reach our goal.
